Biographical literature mainly describes the human beings in history or in the real life,which is based on certain facts.It reflects vivid characters,plots and rich languages,which have a profound impact on spreading culture and broadening literal horizons.However,there are many biographies taking an example of one person in our country.This hinders the types of our biography.Therefore,it is necessary to study foreign biographies.The translation of biography is on the agenda.The translation report is based on Basil Street Blues: A Family Story from Chapter one to Chapter five,which is written by famous British biographer Michael Holroyd.The book mainly focuses on the family of Michael Holroyd and depicts the decline of a wealthy British family over a hundred years.On the one hand,it is to make readers know about the family story;on the other hand,it is conducive to compare Chinese biographies with foreign biographies.To some extent,it can contribute to the development of literary works in our country,enrich the types of biography and broaden horizons of biography translation.In recent years,with the development of text linguistics,two important concepts of cohesion and coherence are focused by translators.In addition to introducing the translation task and translation process,the translation report mainly concentrates on the case analysis.Under the guidance of cohesion and coherence put forward by Halliday and Hasan and in view of language feature,the author analyzes the specific cases from the perspective of amplification,omission and conversion.As for amplification,it focuses on the interspersed tenses and implicit meaning;as for omission,it concentrates on the personal references and semantic relations;as for conversion,according to the differences and expressive habits between Chinese and English,it is about conversion in part of speech and voice.The process is to make the translation more concise and coherent.In the conclusion,the author concludes the problems met in the translation and expected goals.Through the translation report,it is expected that it can enrich the types of biographies,provide some references for the translation of biographies.
