A Report On The Translation Of Mimics Medical Reference Guide

More and more medical staff intend to go abroad for further study as the medical field is payed more attention.Meanwhile,many medical institutions introduce advanced equipment,including computer-aided medical machine.However,most of the instructions or guidance are written in English and related to some professional knowledge,which makes it necessary to translate them into Chinese.The author received the translation task from the Hospital of Linkou County and translated the English guidance of Mimics into Chinese.The Chinese version will be used as the textbook of the doctors.As a scientific text,the language is concise and specific.The author’s version is faithful to the original text both in the meaning and the style.This practice report is based on the translation task of Mimics Medical Reference Guide.It adopts Nida’s functional equivalence as the theoretical guidance and analyzes the difficulties and strategies in scientific English translation.This thesis is divided into four parts.The first part introduces the translation task.The author briefly introduces the translation material and the client’s requirements.The second part describes the translating process,including the preparation and the translator arrangement.The third part is the case study,which is the main body of the whole thesis.The author lists some difficulties during translating and corresponding solutions.The fourth part concludes the practice and puts forward some suggestions.The author sincerely hopes to provide a little reference for other translators.
