This thesis based on textual research provides for the first time details about Huang's family background and life as well as a systematic analysis of his poems and their artistic characteristics. It also provides a detailed chronicle of Huang Wenchen's life.In the second chapter,we analyze his attitude towards poetry, poetic concept and learning orientation, reaching a conclusion that he thought poetry-creation was less important in life, and when he made poems he insisted on “real, personal and temperamental” concept. Also, when he learned from ancient poets but not concentrate on one specific school,in this way he made his own poetry mild, peaceful, simple and long-last meaningful. In the third chapter,we introduce comprehensively themes and contents of his poetry.Generously on three aspects: express feelings though plants, showing personal experiences, poems for friends and family. In the fourth chapter,we conclude the artistic characteristics of his poems.Huang Wenchen liked to write long poems and group poems, very emotional but not burdensome.Meanwhile,he wrote history in his poem, using poems to record history,so his poetry is very real and trustworthy. In a word,as a famous poet active in Hunan and Hubei during the late Qing dynasty,Huang Wenchen's poems were with great value both in art and history. In studying Huang Wenchen's poems and shedding light on his life and experiences,as well as the on the specificities of his poetic style,we seek to gain a better understanding of the creative underpinnings of the poetry of his time and to fill in a long extant blank in the history of Chinese literature.
