| The Soviet-Indian Relation is an important part of the relations between major powers during the Cold War.The evolution of Soviet-Indian Relation directly reflected the switch of the Cold War pattern.This paper is about to make a narration of the evolution of the Soviet-Indian Relations from mid-late periods of 1960 s to late 1970 s.Furthermore,it is also an analysis of the motivation that based on the Soviet-Indian Relation from 1965-1979,combined with the evolution from a perspective of the Major Power Relations,the Cold War pattern and Geopolitics.From 1947 to 1953,The Indo-Soviet relation experienced an indifferent period.During Khrushchev’s dominance,from 1953 to 1964,the bilateral relation improved.In 1964,Brezhnev became the new leader of the Soviet Union.On the policy toward to India,Brezhnev inherited Khrushchev’s policy on India and developed affiliation with India as well.From 1965-1972,with the deterioration of relations either with Soviet and India,China had become a common hostile country for they two.During this period,Soviet Union not only supported India with economic construction for building up strength industrial system,but also helped them in military development by providing military support as far as possible.In 1971,Soviet Union and India signed the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between USSR and India,which marked the establishment of “Paramilitary Alliance” between Soviet Union and India.From 1973-1979,as the USSR promoted “Hegemonism”,fighting with US in global world,the Soviet-Indian Relation made new breakthrough in this period.Through this dissertation can the motivation of the evolution be analysed and help people find out the regularity.Moreover,we can understand the struggles and fights made by two major power more clearly. |
