The Media Memory Study Of Nanjing Massacre

The memory of human civilization,as a matter of course,has rarely been concerned by the academic community.The "Nanjing Massacre" was such that,before the "Nanjing Massacre" rose to the nationwide event and nationalization of memory,it was as important as other Japanese atrocities committed by the Japanese aggressors in China.It was still limited in its importance to localization,with the exception of casualties.There is no difference with the Chongqing bombing.At this time,whether it is official or private,the memory of the "Nanjing Massacre" has not yet begun to be constructed and defined.This article takes the spread of the Nanjing Massacre as the starting point,and uses the media memory as the analytical framework to try to explore a core research issue: how is memory revived and solidified through the media? In terms of the framework dimensions of the memory construction of the Nanjing Massacre,the central media represented by the People's Daily undoubtedly completed the most traditional and important process of setting the tone.The content it disseminated is a comprehensive reflection of the social and cultural values and beliefs of the time.Then,with the advancement of media technologies,the emergence of multiple media has brought new opportunities for the dissemination of single events.The study of this article divides the theme report of the "Nanjing Massacre" published by the People's Daily between 1949 and 2017 into four periods: the blank period of memory construction from 1949 to 1981,and the base period of memory construction from 1982 to the mid-1990 s.From the late 1990 s to 2011,the internationalization of memory transmission;2012-2017,the nationalization of memory construction.From the perspective of the media memory theory,it has studied how the Nanjing Massacre spread memories in different political environments in the past 68 years.The study found that in the blank period of memory construction in the People's Daily,the Nanjing Massacre was only used as a political tool to attack the ugly behavior of the US and Japanese imperialists,and it was not transmitted as a form of memory construction in the public discourse space.After entering the base period of memory construction,the "transformation of textbook incidents" has become the fuse that directly promotes the official start of the construction of the collective memory of the Nanjing Massacre and fills the blank of publishing.The Nanjing Massacre was a long-lasting "difficulties of suffering" jointly dominated by mainstream media such as the People's Daily.With the breaking of individualized narratives,the normalization of the Nanjing Massacre commemoration began to advance rapidly,so that the Nanjing Massacre,a local nature of the suffering incident,became a national cultural memory as the media repeatedly set,revisited,and publicized it.The major events have won the inheritance across the times.
