A Practice Report On The Translation Of Translation And Web Localization (Chapters 1-2)

This practice report is based on translation practice of Chapter one and Chapter two of Translation and Web Localization,written by Miguel Jimenez-Crespo,a professor at the State University of New Jersey at Rutgers,USA.This book is an academic monograph on localization research.The main function of the source text is to introduce the localization research results to readers and is regarded as a reference book for researchers.According to Reiss text analysis,the translator learns about that the source translation project belongs to an informative text and Skopos theory is adopted to guide the translation report.The logical structure of the sentence should be clarified in translation,and the meaning of the source text should be expressed clearly and accurately to accomplish the translation purpose.Aiming at the problems encountered in translation,the translator analyses some translation cases from two aspects of word and sentence.In terms of translation of words,the translator summarizes the translation methods from the three aspects of terminology,the preposition “with” and the conversion of part of speech,which will improve the readability of the translation.There are many complex and compound sentences in the source text,therefore,three methods of division,adjustment of word order and textual cohesion and coherence need to be adopted to ensure sentences to be smooth and to achieve textual cohesion and coherence.The practice report indicates the requirements for translators in E-C translation.Translators must not only master the English and Chinese,but also use appropriate translation strategies and skills according to the characteristics of the text language.I hope this translation practice report can provide reference for improving translation efficiency and translation quality.
