A Study Of The C-E Translation Of Résumé Under Skopos Theory

With the globalization of economic development,the career path of job hunters in China is becoming more and more international.Therefore,an excellent of English résumé is getting more significant.As a kind of special practical writing,résumé is the “stepping stone” for numbers of job hunters,and also plays a huge role in personal career path and enterprise recruitment.However,in recent years,articles about guiding job hunters to write Chinese résumé can be found everywhere;for the researches on Chinese to English translation of résumé are less.There two major functions of résumé: informativeness and persuasiveness.Excellent résumé can help job hunters acquire the chance of getting an interview among fierce competition and get close to the target job position.The core translation theory of the German functional translation theory is skopos theory,which breaks through the limitation of traditional translation theories and opens up a new perspective for the Chinese to English Translation of résumé.In the process of translation,skopos theory emphasizes the purpose and function of the target text,which determines the translation strategies and methods used by the translator.The translation of personal résumé is not a simple translation of language,but to convey the informativeness and persuasiveness so as to achieve the purpose of translation.This dissertation advocates that the translation of résumé should be oriented towards its communicative purpose.Through the study of the features and functions of résumé,the author translates from lexical,syntactic and textual respectively.In addition,translators should take free translation as the core translation strategy,and literal translation as auxiliary.Flexible use the translation skill: ellipsis,recombination,conversion.The fact shows that these methods are reasonable and effective;and not only proves the significance of skopos theory on résumé translation,but also broadens the application of skopos theory.
