This thesis,based on the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies model described by Wang,Jia and Wang,and the research done by David B.Sawyer on the curriculum settings of Middlebury Institute of International Studies,discusses the curriculum setting and the effect of practical interpreting training in Middlebury Institute of International Studies and in Guangdong University of Foreign Studies,by comparing the curricula and the practicum course for the Master of Arts in Translation and Interpreting program in Middlebury Institute of International Studies and its counterpart for the Master of Translation and Interpreting program in Guangdong University of Foreign Studies.The author compares the two curriculum,specifically compares the differences between the setting of the practicum course of the two institutes,and conducts a questionnaire for four students from each school on how this course helps them to adapt to actual interpreting scenarios,and whether this course promote their professional skills.Through comparison and analyzing feedbacks from the questionnaire,the author discovers that the on-campus practicum course in Middlebury Institute of International Studies poses more positive influence on students when they enter actual interpreting environment after they graduate.Thus,the thesis makes a conclusion that it could help students to adapt to achieve higher professionalization if more practicum courses are included in the curriculum of interpreting training.
