| Love is one of the most important emotions,and LOVE metaphor can help us to comprehend the abstract concept of love.There are a great number of love metaphors in Shakespeare's plays,which provides abundant materials for the contemporary metaphor research.The previous studies on love metaphors in Shakespeare's plays mainly focus on LOVE metaphor's cognitive mechanism,cognitive function in constructing character's views on love and role in constructing coherence of literary texts etc.Thus we can see that Conceptual Metaphor Theory provides a new method for researches on language,the theme and textual coherence in literary.Based on materials of LOVE metaphor both in Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night's Dream,and method of qualitative research,this research tries to explore the similarities and differences of LOVE metaphor and dramatic effects of LOVE metaphor in the two plays.It mainly answers three questions: 1.What types of love metaphors are showed in Romeo and Juliet and AMidsummer Night's Dream? 2.What are the similarities and differences of love metaphors in Romeo and Juliet and AMidsummer Night's Dream? 3.What are the dramatic effects of love metaphors in the two plays?The results of this research show that: 1.Love metaphors in the two plays are mainly divided into highly conventional metaphors and novel metaphors that are created by Shakespeare.2.In terms of metaphorical concepts on love,there are similarities and differences in types and numbers of LOVE metaphor in the two plays.As far as linguistic expressions of LOVE metaphor are concerned,there exist similarities and differences in the categories of semantic similarities between source domain and target domain,specific expressions and its emotional color and intensity,which are closely related to the theme of tragedy and comedy.3.LOVE metaphor can achieve its dramatic effect by way of the similarities and differences of LOVE metaphor in terms of metaphorical concepts and linguistic expressions,and emotions embodied in conceptual metaphor and its specific language.Furthermore,metaphorical language expressions in love-tragedy are more emotional and infectious,and easier to resonate emotionally.The author makes a contrastive research on love metaphors in love-tragedy and love-comedy,and explores the similarities and differences of LOVE metaphor and dramatic effect of LOVE metaphor,which has referential meaning for metaphorical research on Shakespearean plays. |
