| With the development of economic globalization,marketing is playing a more and more important role in our society.Although some Chinese and English books related to marketing gradually appeared in the market,they are still at a primary stage.At present,there are few researches on the translation of this kind of texts,so translating such books has certain practical value.This is a translation report on Chapter Two,Chapter Six and Chapter Seven of The Referral of a Lifetime: Never Make a Cold Call Again! written by Tim Templeton,who is a successful speaker and business consultant.The author teaches a step-by-step system that will allow anyone to generate a steady stream of new business through referral and he also emphasizes the importance of putting the relationship first,rather than just making the sale.The translation is guided by Peter Newmark's Communicative Translation Theory.In this report,the translator analyzes the linguistic features and the writing style of the source text.At the same time,the translation difficulties in translation are summarized.According to these difficulties,the translator analyzes some specific cases from three levels: lexical level,syntactic level and textual level.At lexical level,the translation skills like addition,omission and conversion are adopted.For some words with cultural characteristics,free translation is adopted.At syntactic level,the translator adopts conversion,division,combination and inversion to make the translation acceptable to target readers.At the textual level,the translator pays attention to the logical relation and cohesion of the text.After finishing the task,the translator summarizes the lesson learned and deficiencies in this translation practice.Some practical translation methods are put forward according to the guidance of communicative translation so as to provide reference for translating the same kind of text in the future. |
