This paper is a translation report based on the Chapter III of The Art of Translation by Jiri Levy,a famous literary translation theorist in Czech.The Art of Translation belongs to an academic monograph which introduces the translation strategy from the aesthetic perspective.It consists of 10 chapters,with 150,000 words in total.According to categorization of Newmark' s text typology theory,this selected section mainly belongs to informative text.These translated chapters should mostly adopt communicative strategy.Informative text gives priority to the readers of target culture and aims at disseminating them information as much as possible.At the same time,reader's psychology of information reception,accepting habits and cognitive abilities have been taken into consideration.The report is divided into five chapters: Chapter one provides a general introduction of the project's purpose and significance,of the author and the source text;Chapter two deals with process of preparation,translating and proofreading;Chapter three introduces the theoretical bases and its research status;Chapter four illustrates the typical cases in translating process and tackles them by adopting strategies such as the addition,division,restructuring,cohesion and reference;Chapter five makes a summary and a conclusion of the whole translation report.It is hoped that the translated parts of the book will be beneficial to the readers who attempt to know Levy and his translation theory.
