Li Jigu,unknown in China now,was a renowned historian in the republic of China and had colorful life experiences,including studying abroad,a normal student and pursing both academic and politic career.He is mainly engaged in the study of foreign history,historical research methods and history education,especially the Japanese and Western history.Based on his courses,writings,and others' evaluations,this article mainly explores Li Jigu's achievement in historiography and itscharacteristics and influences.While paying attention to the interaction between academics and the times,it also makes comparison between Li Jigu and his counterparts in the same age in order to further highlight the characteristics of Lee's scholarship and enrich the academic world's perception of the current historiography.This article mainly consists of four parts: introduction,analysis of research significance,status quo and research objectives.The second part is "life and career",which is divided into four stages: studying in Japan,teaching in Beijing and Tianjin and studying in Western Europe,studying history and involving in politics during the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression,and teaching in East China Normal University in his later years.The third part is “research on foreign history”,which examines Lee's study of history from three dimensions: the study of Japanese history,the study of Western history,and the compilation of foreign history textbooks.The fourth part is “historical theory and history education research”,which discusses the exploration of historiography theory and history education.
