Effective Translation In Chinese To English Interpreting

Interpreting is a bilingual process of transferring information between the speaker and the target audience who communicate with each other through diverse languages under different cultural conditions.Effective Translation is what an interpreter should pursue to guarantee the accuracy,completeness and authenticity of the output in his interpretation,a translation philosophy that focuses on the translating process of the linguistic and cultural differences between the source language and the target language and rendering of meanings which is based on functional analyses on the sentence structures,logic and cultural factors of source text,juxtaposed with several coping strategies such as conversion,amplification,re-positioning,change of perspectives,omission,domestication and foreignization.There is no clarified definition for Effective Translation in the academic circle.However,such philosophy is inspired by different schools of translation theories such as Interpretive Theory,Foreignization and Domestication,Functional Equivalence and Formal Correspondence,and efforts made by Chinese scholars in terms of accuracy,translation standards,and the evolution of their translation philosophies.This thesis argues that Effective Translation is the translation assimilated completely to the cultural context of the target language to the extent that both literal and inner meanings of the original text are well conveyed in the translated text without grammatical mistakes.The linguistic and cultural differences are obvious between Chinese and English,particularly in several aspects such as basic sentence structures and syntax,prepositions and compositions,and text strategies regarding the discourse structure.Those differences affect the tempo of flow of information and the expression of central ideas in interpreting.This thesis also conducts further text analyses on speeches and spokesman remarks of the regular press conferences of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2016,and table the aforementioned coping strategies at three levels,namely simple sentence level,inter-sentence level and discourse level,so as to create a new paradigm for Effective Translation.
