Discussion On Adapting Novel Text Into Shaoxing Opera

The adaptation of excellent novel texts into drama plays has increasingly become a popular trend in drama creation.How to successfully adapt the excellent novel text to the script of Shaoxing Opera has always been the subject of much discussion in the field of Shaoxing Opera and even the field of opera.Based on the case study of “the Sisters of Shaoxing Opera”,this paper makes a theoretical explanation of the adaptation of the novel text to the script of Shaoxing Opera,focusing on the analysis of how new modern Shaoxing Opera “the Sisters of Shaoxing Opera” is adapted from the original novel.The new modern Shaoxing Opera “the Sisters of Shaoxing Opera” establishes the theme in the two aspects of “complex human nature” and “gratitude in mind.” which is close to the spirit of the original and integrates into contemporary introspection.Selecting three main characters in the original works: Xie Jinge,Xie Yingge and Wang Houcheng,focusing on portraying the three main characters to construct the dramatic conflict.In terms of artistic conception,it explains that “the Sisters of Shaoxing Opera” follows the linear narrative mode of traditional opera,at the same time,the advantages of Shaoxing opera to sing lyric are brought into play,and the characteristics of Shaoxing Opera are highlighted.It is revealed from three aspects of theme,character and artistic characteristics that the regular restriction of drama literature creation is a comprehensive art which integrates literature,music and stage.
