It is a common way for Chinese composers to compose music using the drama material. However, concertos with the drama accompanying instrument as the solo instrument are seldom. The author attempts to analyze the combination of the accompanying instrument with the orchestra, with the interlude of Yue Opera as the material, as well as the Yue Hu as the solo instrument. This thesis illustrates systemically the thought and technique of the Three Impressions on Shaoxing Opera, composed by the author himself for Yue Hu and orchestra, and also makes a comparison with other familiar concertos. The thesis is composed of four parts: the introduction part analyzes the history, current situation, as well as the thought of the traditional instrument as the solo instrument; Chapter one introduces the conception and the musical structure; Chapter two illustrates the variation of the theme and the harmonic organization; Chapter three analyzes the techniques of the control to the rhythm, and the orchestration as well. It also illustrates, with lots of scores, the importance of the orchestra's structure to the shaping of the music. And the conclusion summarizes the thought embodied through the composing, and also elaborates the author's opinion about the importance and necessity of this concerto composing to the development of drama music.
