There are four basic skills in learning English.They are: Speaking,listening,reading and writing.However,in the course of teaching,writing always receives the least importance in English teaching.In an English classroom in junior high schools,the teachers often spend a lot of time on reading,speaking and listening.However,they always have writing lessons in the same way as reading lessons.Usually,they pay much attention to understanding the whole text and the language points.The students know little about how to write.As a result,the teachers' attitude towards writing leads to the inactiveness of the students in writing.The students cannot understand the main points of the writing material in the exams because they are not trained very well.So,they do badly in writing.It is very common in English writing teaching in my city.Because of what is mentioned above,the author thinks it is necessary to change the present situation.It is possible to apply group cooperative learning to solve the problems.By applying cooperative learning to the teaching of English writing and making the students cooperate with each other and explore the writing ability,it is highly possible to improve their writing ability and as a result,the students will show interest in English classes.So,in the view of cooperative learning,the research aims to answer the following questions by observing the students' behavior in class:1.How much can the students' writing ability improve because of group cooperative learning?2.How does group cooperative learning arouse the students' interest towards English writing?3.Can group learning make the students less anxious in the English writing classes?The experiment starts from September,2017 and ends in December.Questionnaires,an interview,tests and classroom observation are the effective methods to use in the research.The research participants are the students from Grade Seven in Class1,and Class2 in Erling Junior High School.The total number of the students is 56.Before the experiment,the students receive a pre-test,which is in the form of an examination.The examination is a Junior Middle School Entrance Test for Grade 6 students.After the examination,the writing grades of the students are collected and analyzed to be contrasted later.After the experiment,the post-test is applied to the students.Another questionnaire and an interview are also included.Next,it is time to analyze and contrast the data.SPSS may be helpful in the process.The result shows that in English writing teaching,group cooperative learning is proved to be helpful in making the students be active in English classes and improving their writing ability.And it also counts in helping the students to be confident in English learning.There are still many limitations in the research,so in the end,there are some suggestions for the later research.
