| A Dictionary of Early-modern Chinese(DEC),chief-edited by Bai Weiguo,is the earlymodern Chinese dictionary which is largest in scale and highest in quality so far.This dictionary dominates the whole book with the idea of Chinese history strives hard to achieve complete collection of words,interpretation precise and original examples,has reached a new height of earlymodern Chinese dictionary.However,the omission is unavoidable due to the burdensome workload of dictionary-making,which means a further amend is necessary.This paper mainly refers to the Great Chinese Dictionary,A Dictionary of Chinese Dialects,The Dictionary of Wu Dialect in the Ming and Qing Periods,A Large Dictionary of Early-modern Chinese and the Language Dictionary of Modern Vernacular Novels.It consciously absorbs the existing research results,combines with the author’s research experiences,and tries to complete a series of details of the dictionary.Such as the entry collections,senses,definitions,illustrations,quotations phonetic symbols etc.And the writing purpose is to provide references for the revision of DEC and other dictionaries.The introduction part mainly summarizes the research status of early-modern Chinese vocabulary and the compilation situation of early-modern Chinese dictionaries.The body of this paper discuss and remedy the DEC based on linguistic facts.First,words interpretation,including three parts: inaccurate interpretation,inconsistencies,and two sets of special words.Second,discussion on definition,discussed from the omission to the inappropriate parts.Third,add or delete entries,one can be added and another can be deleted.Fourth,examples improvement,consisting of advance,delay,supplement and correction.Fifth,citation collating and discussion about phonetic transcription.During the discussion,we quote and cite extensively by way of corroboration,reference to related research results,trying our best to enrich the material and ensure credible conclusions.In the conclusion part,we put forward some suggestions on the problems of DEC.In entry collection,the incomplete inclusion of headwords should be avoided,the balance of selections should be strengthened.In interpretation,we should avert mutual interpretation or unclear instructions.In the aspect of example proving,trace-ability and exploration work streams still need a further improvement.In addition,the absorption of existing research results should be strengthened. |
