Currently the big cities have access to offer more and more opportunities of jobs and development due to the wave of urbanization.This trend causes frequently social mobility,which can consequently have significant effect on the imbalance of economic development in society.Therefore,more and more young people,so-called empty nest youth(ENY),choose to leave their parents in hometown,and fight for their dreams in big cities.Recently the population of ENY in China has been close to 50 million according to the social survey.However,this group are being faced with such a series of problems and challenges while they work in big city,such as poor social relationship,expensive consumption level,and huge pressure from both life and work.They cannot help having a feeling of isolated loneliness,especially when they back home after work.However,there are little researches related to this psychology problems up to date according to literature research.For this reason,this essay aims to explore and discuss the mental problems of ENY through a combination of quantitatively study and interviews.Besides,this research also study the relationship between the loneliness of ENY with social support and psychological capital,in order to provide efficient suggestion for relieving the mental problems of them.This research has been divided into two main parts in total,the first part has tested 267 young people with the aid of UCLA,SSRS,and PCQ-24.Futhermore,other 340 young people which do not belong to ENY have been tested for comparison study.For the second part,the semi-structured interview was applied to investigate the ENY varies in high,medium and low level of loneliness,four people of each level,named 12 people in total,were adopted for this part,to further study the relationship between these three factors.The main conclusions are as follows:1)The loneliness of ENY is at a serious level and higher than other people.There are significant differences of loneliness when the demographic variables change in whether the only child,social condition etc;2)The social support level of ENY is lower than other social communities(e.g.prison guard,youth teacher in college,state-owned employees,and teachers in rural areas),and obviously lower than the youth who do not belong to ENY.There are significant differences of social support when the demographic variables change in gender,education level,job,and social condition;3)The psychological capital of ENY locate at middle and upper levelsm,significantly higher than youth do not belong to ENY.There are significant differences of psychological capital when the demographic variables change in Household registration,whether the only child,job type,social condition etc;4)There was a significant negative correlation between social support and loneliness,a significant positive correlation with psychological capital,and a significant negative correlation between psychological capital and loneliness;5)The ENY social supports has a significant negative predictive effect on loneliness;psychological capital has a significant negative predictive effect on loneliness;6)Psychological capital plays a partial mediating role in social support and loneliness;7)The ENY people with low loneliness group are better than empty ENY with high loneliness group in terms of interpersonal support,emotional support,support and utilization,subjective factors,social factors,Personal factors and External environment.
