With the outstanding development of China's economy,Chinese culture becomes popular all over the world and there comes an upsurge in learning Chinese.Thailand government has also realized the importance of learning Chinese.Therefore,in order to promote Chinese teaching,schools in Thailand have established Chinese major,and furthermore,they have set up Chinese learning courses for non-Chinese major students.As the second language in Thailand,Chinese is getting more and more attention in its teaching and researches.Motivation,one of the key factors which has a relatively great influence during second language study,is the core driving force in second language acquisition.With motivation,students can set a certain goal before they start learning.Meanwhile,it will urge them to keep studying and have a will to finish the task.Economic developments are different among countries,areas and races,thus the motivation in second language acquisition will be different among various teaching models.In this paper,non-Chinese major students from 5 universities in South Thailand are selected as the research object.Through the method of literature review,questionnaire and interview,this study attempts to reveal the learning situation of non-Chinese major students.A social science statistics software SPSS20 is applied to data analysis.In the mean time,this paper discusses the influences of gender,grade,background,and individual factors of Chinese majors and non-Chinese majors on learning motivation.This study consists of four chapters.The first chapter points out the theoretical basis of this study,which is based on the research situation of psychology learning motivation,and introduces the research status and literature review on Chinese learners' learning motivation at home and abroad.The second chapter is about the survey and analysis of students' motivation,the relationship between individual factors and motivation,as well as the analysis of interviewing results.The factors that impact students' motivation will be mentioned in the third chapter.In the last chapter,some suggestions will be put forward for the Chinese teaching in South Thailand schools,and we hope that can be a favor in stimulating learners' motivation.Below are the results of this study:1.There are four kinds of motivations of non-Chinese major students : intrinsic motivation,extrinsic motivation,integrative motivation and instrumental motivation.Among them,intrinsic motivation is the strongest one.2.Individual differences,such as gender,ages and family background of non-Chinese major will generate different study motivations.3.Social factor,needs of work and teaching mode in class are having great impacts on non-Chinese major students' motivation.
