The source text of the translation project is the excerpts from the book Algorithms to Live By written by Brian Christian and Tom Griffiths which was published in 2016.Brian has got BA degrees both in computer science and philosophy, and MA degree in poetry and art.Tom is a professor of psychology and cognitive science, and has a deep understanding of developing mathematical models of higher level cognition. Also, his academic background has laid a solid foundation for the accomplishment of this book.Reading the book, you will get to know about how computer intelligence and cognitive science influence people's daily life.Due to the limited time, the author chose the introduction and the first two chapters of the book as the translation task. The introduction presents the main idea of the book so translating this part can give Chinese readers a general idea of the whole book. The first two chapters tell readers how to make balance between pursuing and deciding in life. The book mainly talks about the parallels between the problems in human lives and the problems that computers are facing. It outlines practical solutions to these problems and provides a different rational way to make a choice and decision. The translation report consists of six parts. The first part is the introduction to the project, including background, significance and structure of this report. The second part is the description of the translation text, including brief introduction to the authors of the book, the theme, language and writing style of the book. The third part is the translation process, including preparation before translation, problems and difficulties encountered in translation. The fourth part is about the Skopos theory and the strategies used for analyzing the problems and difficulties in translation. The fifth part is the case study in terms of the theory and strategies illustrated in the fourth part. The last part is to summarize the lessons that the author has learnt in translation and reflection. It also presents the problems still remaining unsolved.
