| The Mongolian diet which is mainly composed of meat products,dairy products and tea has its unique cooking methods,eating methods,table manners and cultural customs.At present,however,the names of Mongolian food and dishes do not have well-accepted or authoritative translations and the number of English translations introducing Mongolian dietary customs and culture is small.Therefore,it is necessary to translate related works.Translating works related to the Mongolian dietary culture can not only provide reference for local restaurants in terms of menu translation,but also let readers in English-speaking world know Mongols better.Under the guidance of Newmark’s theory,this thesis discusses the problems and solutions about the translation of folklore text with the C-E translation of the dietary part of Menggutong as the example.First of all,the author concludes that the main function of the source text is informative function after analyzing according to typology theory.And accurately conveying information to the target language reader is the most important purpose of the translation.Secondly,in case study,the author selects typical cases and makes a detailed analysis from four aspects: translation of the name of Mongolian food,translation of proverbs,translation of long sentences describing making method and translation of sentences without subjects.Under the guidance of semantic translation and communicative translation,the author puts forward specific solutions and translation techniques for each problem.The report shows that in the process of translation,pre-translation preparation and post-translation review are indispensable;In the process of translation preparation,text analysis is an important guidance to the selection of translation methods and translation techniques in the translation process.In the process of translating folklore texts,both the reservation of national culture and the feelings of target language readers must be paid attention to. |
