| This is a report on English to Chinese translation.The source text is the excerpts from the book Lanna Colonial: A Return to Elegance,which was published in 2012,and the Chinese version is yet to be found in the market.The author chooses chapter 1,chapter 4 and chapter 5 to translate,which vividly show the characteristics of Lanna colonial architectures and their profound history and culture.Under the guidance of Hermeneutics theory by George Steiner,this report tends to solve the difficulties encountered in the process of the translation by using the specific translation methods,and summarize the translation experience that aims to provide reference for further studies on the translation of popular science text about architecture culture.This report consists of six parts.The first part is an introduction.The second part is the description of the translation task,including the background,literature review and purposes and significance of the task.The third part is the description of the translation process,including preparation for the task,the introduction of George Steiner’s translation theory,translation process,and revision after translation.The fourth part demonstrates some difficulties met during the translation process such as the translation of words,sentences and rhetoric devices.The fifth part is about some translation methods of solving the above difficulties under the guidance of Hermeneutics theory such as transliteration,annotation and so on.The last part is a summary,including the gains from the translation practice,introspections of author’s own limitations and some suggestions for further studies. |
