Wuchudaguan(1201-1268)was a heir of Beijianjujian(????),the third generation disciple of Dahuizonggao(????)and the fifteenth heir of the Linji school(???).He was an eminent Zen master in the Southern Song Dynasty and had an important influence on the development of Zen in East Asia.He abandoned Confucianism and began to study Buddhism.Initially,he studied from Beihaiwuxin(????),Wuzhunshifan(????)and Shitianfaxun(????).Then he met the Beijianjujian and followed to Taoist Hill and Jinci Temple.He repeatedly moved to the temples and gave enlightenment,quite prestigious.In 1241,he hosted Faxiang Temple in Hangzhou.Then he presided Xianci Temple in Huzhou,Xiangtian Xinjiao Temple in Shaoxing and Zhimen Temple in Ningbo.In 1253,he took charge of Daci temple that located in the side of Dongqian Lake in Ningbo.In 1263,he moved to Asoka Temple as the 46th Abbot.He died in June 1268 and buried in the west of Asoka Temple.During the period of Wuchudaguan hosted Daci temple(1253-1263),Daguan presided over the construction of the Cishi House of Daci temple,built "Shan Ying Spring",organized the public to reclaim farmland from the sea to support the cultivation of Zen monks,and enlightened on the Sino-Japanese Buddhist disciples who seek for the Buddha dharma.He made Daci Temple an internationally famed Zen-practicing centre.The development of Daci Temple entered its heyday.During the period of Wuchudaguan mastered Asoka Temple(1253-1263),Daguan devoted himself to launching the temple-renovating project,restoring the prosperity of Asoka Temple and maintaining Asoka temple as the center of the East Asian Zen cultural exchange.In addition to focusing on the development of these temples,Daguan has also made achievements in the local livelihood of these regions and has even had an important influence in the spread of Zen to Japan.In the 24 Japanese Zen Schools,the Wuxue School and the Fahai School directly received the influence of Wuchudaguan.The two founder fathers who founded the Dazhuo School and the Zhongyan School were his third generation disciples and they indirectly inherited his spirit and belief.As a Zen master,Daguan's collection “Wuchu Shengyu” was the representative of the Zen Literature in the Southern Song Dynasty.It was also one of the sources of the appearance and development of Japanese Wushan Literature.This paper divided into three chapters,mainly studies the life of Wuchudaguan and his influence on the development of Zen in Siming area.The first chapter is the introduction,which mainly introduces the origin and significance of the topic,related the research review,research ideas and methods.The second chapter is the study on the life of Wuchudaguan.The "study of life" is divided into three sections.The first section mainly studies the Wuchudaguan's monk carrer in Siming Zen society.The second section is mainly about the Teacher-student relationship of Wuchudaguan.It is written in four aspects: "Grandmaster","Teachers","Condisciples" and "Dharma heirs".The third section is mainly about the relationship between Wuchudaguan and his friends.According to the historical materials mastered at the present stage,the interpersonal communication network of Wuchudaguan is divided into seven categories: School,doujins,the Japanese monks who entered the Song Dynasty,bureaucrats,poets,lay Buddhists and Buddhist craftsmen.They have multiple relationships with Wuchudaguan,but for the convenience of research,each person is classified according to their primary status.Research on the life of Wuchudaguan mainly based on Wuchudaguan's “WuChu ShengYu” and the works of some of his friends,at the same time reference the annals of buddhist temples,the local Chronicles and other related originals.The third chapter is Wuchudaguan's contribution to the Zen society in the Southern Song Dynasty.The first section is Wuchudaguan's construction of Daci Temple.This section not only includes his management and operation of the temple,but also involves the construction of local people's livelihood,such as the reclamation of the sea and the construction of reservoirs.The second section is Wuchudaguan's construction of Asoka Temple.He revived the temple by building renovation and new construction.The third section is his contribution to fine study of Zen literature,calligraphy and edify Chinese and Japanese disciples.The fourth section is about the history of some temples in Siming area in the Southern Song Dynasty that he recorded.This section mainly focuses on the history,management,replacement of the abbot and development of these temples in Siming area and other areas in eastern Zhejiang by interpretating “Wuchu Shengyu”.This provides a precious record for us to rebuild the history of these temples,and also provides ideas and materials for the academic circles to study the evolution process of the Buddhist temple in eastern Zhejiang in the Song Dynasty.For further academic research,there is a"The Chronicle of Wuchudaguan"and the diagram of the relationship between the teachers and students of the Yangqi School(???)of Linji School at the end of the article.
