Guidance on the compilation of safety data sheet(SDS)for chemical products,issued by General Administration of Quality Supervision,Inspection,and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China and Standardization Administration of China(SAC),is the national standard providing information on the safety requirement,health concern,and environmental protection of chemical products.It has been gradually recognized as the most complete and widely-used standard that is close to the International standard compiled by International Organization for Standardization.In recent years,the medical industry,a significant part of our national economy,has become a hit among people with the development of the society and improvement of people's living standard.However,the level of medical industry still develops at a relatively low pace.Therefore,it is necessary for us to bring in the advanced technology and equipment from abroad,which makes the medical translation one of the inevitable requirements.The medical translation,to some degree,influences whether the technology and medical equipment can enter China and the development of the whole medical field.The translator translated a part of the GB/T 17519-2013 version of Guidance on the compilation of safety data sheet(SDS)for chemical products when working as an intern at Wuhan branch of CODEX,a famous translation company in medical translation field.The translation of Guidance on the compilation of safety data sheet(SDS)for chemical products into English can not only offer the guidance and convenience to the foreign medical product consumers in China,but also largely make the medical products accepted by international market.All the benefits listed above will promote the advancement of China's economy.Based on the translation practice,the report is aimed to summarize all the obstacles and problems that appeared before,during,and after the whole translation process,andthen the report also summarizes all the methods and skills adopted by the translator in the settling of the problems on the basis of the translation shift theory put forward by J.C.Catford.The report consists of four parts,namely,description of the translation task,description of the translation process,case analysis and summary of the translation practice.Supported by lots of convincing and concrete examples,the analysis and summarization with the theoretical foundation,the report can serve as a reference for future translation of the same field.
