Bring Me Back,written by B.A.Paris who is the popular novel writer,has been chosen as a translation practice task.Bring Me Back is a suspense novel,which tells the story of Finn,Ellen and her sister Layla.Generally speaking,suspense fiction pays more attention to the creation of atmosphere to appeal to the readers’ interest.In the process of reading the source text,the translator finds that the source text is a typical suspense fiction.There are many environment descriptions,psychological descriptions and creation of atmosphere in the novel.The accuracy of the translation will influence the understanding of the target readers.Translating these linguistic features and style properly will be the key points of the thesis.Translation shift is inevitable in the process of translation.Therefore,the translator chooses translation shift theory to guide the thesis.The thesis,based on the linguistic features of suspense fiction,tries to employ Catford’s shift model to examine the translation shifts existing on and below the level of sentences in the translation process of Bring Me Back,including class shift,structure shift,unit shift.The translation shift theory guide the translation of suspense fiction,and it can highlight the linguistic features of suspense fiction.Due to the different cultural backgrounds,it is necessary to respect the source language as much as possible and keep the suspense effect of the source language.Meanwhile,the acceptability of the target language readers is also important.
