As the crystallization of human natural science and social science,traditional Chinese medicine not only inherits the profound history and splendid culture of the Chinese nation,but also plays an important role in the development of China.With the popularization of traditional Chinese medicine in the world,more and more Western scholars begin to pay attention to the study of traditional Chinese medicine.This is an English-Chinese translation report on traditional Chinese medicine.The source text is an excerpt from Asian Health Secrets,written by American author Letha Hadady.This book mainly introduces the traditional Chinese medicine to American people from the author's personal point of view and covers a number of ways of treating common diseases in people's daily life with Chinese medicine,such as overweight,headaches,arthritis,allergies and so on.Traditional Chinese medicine translation belongs to science and technology translation.In order to make the target readers obtain the accurate original information,the translator,apart from analyzing the background and significance of the original work,mainly discusses difficulties encountered in the process of translation and some solutions.For the difficult problems in translation,the author resolves them both at the lexical level and the syntactical level.In terms of the traditional Chinese medicine terminology,the author adopts the transliteration and explanatory translation.And according to the characteristics of many difficult sentences in traditional Chinese medicine,the author uses the translation methods of following original syntactic order,reinventing sentences and combination.The rendition is more accurate and fluent by using these translation methods flexibly.Through this translation practice,the author not only summarizes the problems and difficulties in translation,but also draws lessons from it.In addition,this thesis also introduces Western research on traditional Chinese medicine to China and providessome help for traditional Chinese medical learners.
