Schema is an important concept in cognitive psychology;it's a framework that can activate the long-term memory of mind and connect the old and new knowledge. In short, schema refers to an organization of past experience and knowledge. In recent years, schema theory has been extensively applied to language acquisition, such as teaching of listening and reading.Interpreting involves complex cognitive process, during which schema plays a significant role in source language comprehension, information processing as well as target language production. Therefore, exploring the application of schema theory to interpreting is of great practical significance. This report is a case study of the consecutive interpreting on "Self-Motivation",a lecture organized by the report writer in September 2017.It analyzes the application of schema theory to her interpreting practice.Four parts——description of the interpretation task, introduction to the schema theory, case analysis and conclusion——are included in this report. Two schemata, namely, linguistic schema and extra-linguistic schema which are applied to her interpreting are introduced in the second chapter. The schema barriers in interpreting and the coping strategies based on schema theory are discussed in the next chapter. Finally, the writer summarizes and reflects on the problems she encountered under the guidance of schema theory. The conclusion is that schema theory including schema building, schema expanding as well as schema activating can serve as a practical learning framework for student interpreters.
