Reading instructions are very important to the improvement of junior high school students’ English learning abilities.However,due to the influence of traditional reading instructions,English teachers tend to focus on vocabulary,sentence patterns and grammar practices.Therefore,this research takes the Schema Theory as the point of penetration to explore the effectiveness of applying the Schema Theory in junior high school English reading instruction.The research is based on the experiment,which takes two parallel classes,one as the experimental class and the other as the control class,to research the students’ reading abilities under the guidance of the Schema Theory.The Schema Theory is applied to the reading instruction in the experimental class and the traditional reading instruction is used in the control class during the experiment.The questionnaire survey is arranged to do in the experimental class.The students in experimental class are asked to complete the questionnaires to compare the changes of students’ reading attitudes after applying the Schema Theory before and after the experiment.At the same time,there are two tests,including pre-test and post-test,for the two classes.The results are compared and analyzed by SPSS software and the results will be elaborated by using the data.The research embroidered “What are the differences between the traditional English reading instruction and the schema-oriented English reading instruction?” and“What effects does the schema-oriented English reading instruction have on students’ English reading learning? ”,then it came to the following conclusions:First of all,we can see that the students’ situation towards English reading learning has changed to a certain extent from the results of the questionnaire survey in the experimental class,not only the interest in English reading learning has been improved,but also the mastery of the reading strategies have been improved.Secondly,it is found that the application of the Schema Theory promotes the improvements of students’ English reading after comparing the reading results of the experimental class and the control class.Finally,this thesis also puts forward some enlightenment for junior high school English reading instruction on the basis ofschema theory in order to provide some references.
