Reading ability is one of the important dimensions of language skills.It is the main source of information acquisition and is becoming more and more important for junior high school students.According to English Curriculum Standards of Compulsory Education(2011),English reading should pay attention to not only the learning of knowledge but also the cultivation of logical thinking and inference ability.This requires reading teaching to be student-centered and promote effective interaction between students and reading materials.However,there are still problems in current junior high school English reading.For example,teachers still play the main role in reading class and students obtain the knowledge passively so that they lose interest in learning.In order to provide more efficient English reading teaching,improve students' reading interest,and promote the all-round development of students' comprehensive English language competence,the author applies the Scaffolding Instruction to English reading teaching in a junior high school.The research explores the English reading teaching in junior high school and analyzes the influences of Scaffolding Instruction on junior high school English reading teaching.In this study,41 students from Class Two,Grade Seven in Shanshui Junior High School were selected as the research subjects for four-month teaching.This study is to test whether Scaffolding Instruction can improve students' English reading effects and to find out whether there are any other aspects which students may make achievements in;besides,the study is also to explain the reason why students get improvement in these areas.So this study proposes to solve the following three problems:1)Does Scaffolding Instruction improve students' English reading effects?2)Besides,are there any other achievements students make? If yes,what are they?3)Why do students make progress in these areas?The study adopts four research instruments: interviews,questionnaires,class observation and tests.The research results show that the application of the Scaffolding Instruction can improve students' reading effects;besides,the application of the Scaffolding Instruction teaching model in junior high school English reading improves students' reading interest and reading ability.The Scaffolding Instruction supports students in terms of background materials,creates a good reading environment for students to read independently and effectively so that to improve their reading interest;it also helps students better grasp the main information and structure of the reading material,enhance students' awareness of choosing appropriate strategies to improve students' reading ability.As a result of the limitations of research time,conditions and other objective factors,this study has certain deficiencies.However,in general,the research has achieved the expected results,providing some reference for the junior high school English reading teaching.
