A Project Report On The E-C Translation Of LFT (Long-fiber Reinforced Thermoplastics) Operating Manual

Science and technology is the cornerstone of social development.With the continuous development of globalization,exchanges among countries are becoming more and more frequent.As a tool of information sharing,the translation has also become a catalyst for the development of science and technology.There are many characteristics and difficulties in EST translation with many specialized vocabularies and complicated sentence patterns as well as difficult technical contents.Therefore,some traditional translation theories may not be able to solve the translation problems.So many scholars turned their attention to some newer translation theories.Skopostheorie,as the core of functional translation theory,breaks beyond the bondage of the original text and aims at the purpose of translation.It can even change the form of the original text in order to improve the translation.This translation report is based on an LFT(long-fiber reinforced thermoplastic)operating manual from ProTec Polymer Processing that describes how to use and maintain the machine.This manual can promote production and strengthen exchanges in its professional field.This report selects examples from this operating manual and analyzes from three aspects of vocabulary,syntax and discourse.Then under the guidance of Skopostheorie,the author finds solutions according to different translation methods,such as annotation,literal translation,conversion of part of speech,omission,division,reversion etc.in order to make the operating manual more readable.
