Giuseppe Arcimboldo(1526-1593)was a manicurist of the sixteenth century.The painter,who was mainly engaged in the mosaic of the church in the early days,and later became the court painter of the Habsburg and served three emperors.The most prominent manifestation of his artistic career is the grotesque "composite portraits" and which is composed of various fruits and vegetables,animals,plants,flowers,and even non-living objects and related elements,such as resetting,interlacing,etc.This thesis first introduces the background and artistic performance of Archimedo's time,and then traces the history of grotesque combined images to clarify the grotesque style and visual source of Archinbodo's compound portraits;secondly,exploring Archinbardo's objects(especially natural objects)Choices,of which metaphors and symbols,to reiterate the imperial implied and funny poetic tradition;finally,in exploration of the descriptive traditions that characterize natural expressions,the depiction of their natural objects(animals or plants)is "taken from life".It confirms the research on the natural history of the court at that time and intersperses the connection between the composite portraits and the natural sciences such as facial science,element theory,and astrology,and climbs and combs reversible still-life paintings,laying the foundation for Archin Bado' s position in the still-life history,and drawing its composite portrait's value and time significance of natural research.
