The Forms and Styles in Mounting Paintings and Calligraphies in Shaoxing Imperial Court, written by Zhoumi, is the only exist historical document on the collection and mounting in imperial court. This document preserved for us not only the mounting material, form and style, mounting procedures in the southern Song court, but also the details of imperial collections.The mounting of pictures in southern Song court was based on the strict classification. According to the different parts in picture. the mounting style and material is different. Every parts which making the mounting of a picture is given a special name, such as Biao, Li, Dan, Yinshou and so on. Paintings and calligraphies were classified to many ranks, different rank have different mounting material, colors and patterns. By the southern Song, the mounting style and technique is mature, the most important three formats, which are hand scroll, hanging scroll and album, were fixed.In the second years of Shaoxing reign, an imperial mounting studio named zhuangjiezuo was founded, governed by the Mige of Mishusheng. The work of the studio at the first was only the mounting and conservation of books, but then included paintings and calligraphies, it means the birth of special mounting agency in Chinese history. On the influence of soutnern Song Zhuangjiezuo studio, the Mongolia Yuan court also have special mounting agency subsidiary to MIshusheng, just like southern Song.When mounting a picture in southern Song court, there were a serials of principles and procedures which preserved in Zhoumi's The Forms and Styles in Mounting. The most noteworthy is the emperor's inspection throughout the whole mounting work process. Besides the principles of forms and styles, The Forms and Styles in Mounting indicated that the imperial court also paid attentions to the mounting techniques and formed several principles: some acts such as sweep the back, wash image heavily and cut the image too large were not permitted.The Forms and Styles in Mounting is a detailed document concerning the mounting in southern Song court. The historical information this document engaged, especially those about the principles and norms in the mounting technique, would shed light on some difficult of mounting work nowadays. At the other hand, The Forms and Styles in Mounting have record some historical information about the imperial court's idea of collection and mounting. In the eyes of southern Song imperial court, the paintings and calligraphies as Things was more significant than their as Arts.
