Students should be more autonomous at the graduate level.However,in reality,many postgraduates have academic procrastination,which affects the completion of academic tasks and the further development of research.In order to figure out the current situation of academic procrastination,academic self-efficacy of graduate students and the relationship between the them,the study took advantage of the "Master Graduate Academic Procrastination Questionnaire" and the "Master Graduate Academic Self-Efficacy Scale" to investigate 803 postgraduate students studying at A University and conduct qualitative interviews based on grounded theory,which provides reference for improving the academic self-efficacy and reducing academic procrastination of graduate students.The overall findings are as follows:(1)About 80% of postgraduates have a middling or above procrastination,with5% of those with high procrastination.In seven academic activities,the degree of procrastination of graduate students from high to low is reading literature,writing coursework or dissertation,preparing various examinations,preparing publication or research reports,preparing graduation thesis,conducting experiments and internships,and completing the tutor's assignments related to academics.The degree of procrastination for graduate students differs significantly in terms of gender,grade,degree type,subject,marital status,and whether or not they are cross-professional.(2)The degree of academic self-efficacy of graduate students is above the middle level,and there are significant differences in the gender,grade,subject,marital status,and whether having work experience or not.(3)There is a significant negative correlation between postgraduate academic procrastination and academic self-efficacy.Students with low academic self-efficacy are more likely to experience academic procrastination.(4)According to qualitative interviews,there are seven major factors influencing the academic self-efficacy of graduate students: academic activity characteristics and feedback,self-cognition,learning environment,personality and behavior characteristics,social support,individual assessment of academic activities and comparative assessment.The interaction of various factors has an impact on academic self-efficacy.
