A Report On The Translation Of Family Education(Excerpts)

While the causes of juvenile delinquency are attributed to either the individual or the society,the family education of teenager is actually another key factor.More and more people have realized that parents are the best teachers for their children and great importance has been attached to family education.Family Education is a Chinese book on children education,written by Chen Heqin,who is the founder of children pedagogy in China.The book is a masterpiece of the author,and has produced positive influence upon parents,teachers and people interested in the field.Its English version has not yet been found in China.The report is based on the Chinese-English translation of Chapter 3 in Family Education,which introduces 11 general principles of children education with a length of 11,733 Chinese characters.The language in the source text is somehow out of date in China,while the educational thoughts are still influential.Thus,the expressions and connotations are key and difficult points.While analyzing the translation process and typical cases,this translation report explores and applies the translation theory of translation as adaption and selection.There are four parts in the paper,namely task description,process description,case analysis and summary.The first part is a brief introduction to the task background,source text,including the author and the features of the source text.The second part gives a clear presentation of the translation process,including preparation,translation and revision.The third part is the core of the report,analyzing a few typical cases from the aspect of linguistic dimension,cultural dimension and communicative dimension.The last part summaries the experience and presents fruits.The translation practice,to some extent,exposes the significance as well as difficulties in the English translation of classics with some typical Chinese characteristics.Meanwhile,it's hoped that people will pay more attention to family education,and further promote the English translation and transmission of traditional Chinese classics.
