This thesis is a translation report. The author of the original work is Allie Phillips, who is a noted animal defender in the United States. This translation task is commissioned by the Forestry Department of Yunnan Province. This book tells about how to get involved in animal protection from very simple task to in-depth work as well as things we can do to help animals. This translation report is about the first three chapters that mainly focus on the stances we choose when we advocate for animals, how to engage in animal protection and how to deal with problems we may meet during animal advocacy. The translator chose the text typology theory to analyze the text type, then took the theory of translation as adaptation and selection, and applied such translating strategies as domestication, semantic translation and communicative translation to accomplish the target text. According to the theory of translation as adaption and selection, translators are the most important part in translating process. Only when translators adapt to the translational eco-environment, make proper choice, and balance the interests of all parties can a good translation be presented.
