Chinese-English translation of materials for political purpose has been greatly developing since1980s. Successful C-E translation on political publicity can meet the domestic demand of the reformand opening-up and in the mean time, satisfies the needs of the world’s trend of peace and development. However, as international politics is a rather serious and sensitive topic, the translation process ofpolitical texts is full of difficulties and hardship, which in return makes the translation works in thisfield relatively less than other forms of the non-literature Chinese-English translation. However, in thebackground of world globalization, there’s been a greater need for the English version of Chinesepolitical texts. It demands more translators with deeply understanding of the political materialtranslation and make their efforts in this area. The obstacles in the translation process of political textswill be discussed in the thesis. Considering the significance and influence, the author chooses theGovernment Work Report as the object of this study among the various types of the political texts. This thesis is written in the light of a relatively new perspective, eco-translation. Eco-translationis not only being employed to conduct the literature translation, but also the non-literature translation.Eco-translation has an interdisciplinary orientation. Eco-transtology is, according to Hu Gengshen, anecological approach to translation studies, or in other words, translation studies from an ecologicalperspective. It is characterized by an ecological conception. The ecological paradigm, with theprinciples underlying it, of translation, the transformation of three dimension, the eco-environment fortranslation, the principles of doing things with translation, translation as adaption and selection, allhelp identify the concept of eco-translation.This thesis tries to prove that eco-translation is conductive and practical in the process oftranslating the Report and summarizes several useful instructions in translating political texts. It willmainly solve these problems: What are the functions and characteristics of the political texts? What arethe difficulties in the process of political texts translation? What are the core concepts of eco-translation?How can eco-translation be instructive in the political texts translation? This thesis is developed in5parts. In the first part, the author discusses the background and achievements of the related studies athome and abroad. In the second part, the author defines eco-translation and unfolds the basic conceptsinvolved and studies under its guidance. In the third part, the author discusses the characteristics ofGWR and the proper measures to translate them. In the fourth part, the author introduces Government Work Report and its features as well. She also provides detailed examples in GWR to verify thateco-translation is well respected in the translation activity.
