A Translation Report On Kurt Vonnegut:The Last Interview And Other Conversations

Since the 21 st century,China's foreign exchanges have been unprecedentedly active.As an important means used by the media,interviews provide China with a convenient way to understand the outside world.Therefore,the study of interview translation becomes particularly important.In recent years,domestic research on interviewing English translation has been insufficient.Therefore,translators have conducted beneficial explorations of such styles based on the linguistic features of Chinese and English as well as different cultural connotations.This practice report is based on an English version of the book entitled Kurt Vonnegut: The Last Interview and Other Conversations.This book is a collection of textual materials from different interviewers' interviews with Kurt Vonnegut.A large number of deixis appeared in the book,especially the personal deixis.At the same time,the pragmatic equivalent translation theory is the view of pragmatics in translation and it is established on the basis of pragmatic features.This theory emphasizes that translators should use context as the main basis.From the perspective of target language readers,based on the understanding of the differences in the usage of English and Chinese deixis,the accuracy of the original meaning of the original text should be closely translated and pragmatics can be achieved maximum effect.Therefore,based on the pragmatic equivalent translation theory,this practice report starts from the pragmatic characteristics of the personal deixis,combining the pragmatic features with translation ideas.It combines the pragmatic features of English and Chinese deixis and the translation examples of this practice to explore the translation strategies adopted in the target language context to achieve pragmatic equivalence.It also aims to analyze the methods used in the translation of the personal deixis in the text and to analyze the translation of the personal deixis in a specific context,which will be a meaningful Translation attempts.In this practice report,the author summarizes five types of translation methods,including concretization in the person deixis translation,omission in the person deixis translation,conversion of person in the person deixis translation,literal translation in the person deixis translation and other translation methods.At the same time,the author makes a detailed summary of this translation practice,which lays the foundation for future translation practice as well as provides references for other translators when translating such texts.This translation practice helps translators to further explore the pragmatic equivalent translation of personal deixis,and also provides reference for other translation skills and translation strategies for interviewing text-like English.
