At present,China has attached great attention to the development of the navy. Thus, there exists an increasing demand for the Chinese translation of English research materials in this field, which brings about intense challenges.Standard Operating Procedure for Naval Aviation Maintenance Plan is a scientific and technological text.A large number of passive sentences are used in the source text to clarify rigorous and objective facts. Therefore, how to translate the passive sentences smoothly is a difficulty, which also indicates the significance of this report.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory and its principle on producing in the receptor language the closest natural equivalent to the message of the source language, based on a wide reading of related literature, such translation strategies are summarized in this report as the literal translation into explicit and semi-explicit Chinese passive sentences to make formal correspondence of voice pattern;free translation by keeping the original subject, converting the components and adding logical subject to match the passive meaning;and reproduction of the original stylistic feature with non-subject sentence which is unique in Chinese language system.Aiming at summarizing the translation experiences and searching the concrete translation principles on scientific and technological texts, this report explores the translation strategies of passive sentences in order to provide useful guidance and reference for the practice and study of EST translation in the future.
