A Practice Report On English Translation Of Tour In Ziyang

This paper is a practice report on the English translation of Tour in Ziyang published by Tourism Bureau of Ziyang City(now Ziyang Municipal Commission of Tourism Development).The brochure aims to advertise the local tourism resources by introducing city development,tourism resources and local customs and provide service information for tourists in terms of food,accommodation,traffic,entertainment and shopping.Through the 3rd Sichuan International Travel Expo in 2016,the author becomes interested in translating the brochure.Later the author is honored to carry out the work after being authorized.After careful reflection on translation theory and translation process,the author writes this thesis.Before the translation practice,the overall planning of “self-translation,self-revision,mutual revision,and final revision” is made to ensure quality of the translation.The computer aided translation software Power Echo is selected to do the translation practice.Termbase and corpus are established to provide a reference for similar research.After making a retrospective summary on a series of difficulties in the whole translation process,the author selects Prof.Gu's Plural Complementarism of Translation Standard as a guide.It puts forward that the absolute translation standard is source text and the highest translation standard is best approximation which is achieved by a series of specific standards.Owing to the ever-changing aesthetic subject and specific requirements of certain texts,the primary and secondary specific translation standard can be converted.Guided by the theory,this paper tries to seek for specific standards and translation methods to deal with difficulties in translation practice.Apart from introduction and conclusion,this paper is composed of four chapters.The first chapter is the task description,including the background of the task,textual analysis,and requirements of the client.The second chapter introduces the translation process,including pre-translation task,translation schedule,post-translation work as well as the difficulties in translation process.The third chapter focuses on theoretical thinking and gives a brief introduction to Prof.Gu's Plural Complementarism of Translation Standard.The fourth chapter—case study,is the key part of this paper,aiming to find suitable solutions to solve the difficulties at both word and sentence level in the translation process under the guidance of Plural Complementarism of Translation Standard.The conclusion summarizes losses and gains in the translation process and puts forward some suggestions in translating other Chinese tourism texts.Through the translation practice,it's expected to promote the publicity of local tourism resources and serve as a guide for the sightseeing of foreigners.Hopefully,it will provide references for translation study on tourism materials in China.By a series of translation processes including self-translation,mutual-review,analysis and summary,it's self-evident that translation,as an interdisciplinary and cultural exchange,calls for a translators' comprehensive ability,including the skilled application of translation theory,the flexible selection of translation strategies and methods,the extensive background knowledge,the proficiency in computer aided translation software,and team cooperation.After the translation task,the author's ability in the application of translation theory and translation practice has also been improved.
