A Practice Report On C-E Translation Of Tour Commentaries Of Songyang County

This paper is a practice report of translation based on a tour commentary of Songyang County.The subject of the translation report represents a tourist text.This paper will analyze the key points of this tourist translation from the perspectives of functionalism theory of Christiane Nord.This paper discusses the lexical and textual features of this commentary and explores corresponding translation strategies under the guidance of the functionalism.This study finds that the tour commentary of Songyang County has a plenty of cultural words such as scenic spots,historic figures and architecture names.Although this commentary consists mostly of informative segments,it boasts a lot of expressive sentences and operative sentences that aim to achieve the expressive function and appellative function.It’s worth noting that in the informative segments,there are quite a few policy-related introductions.Such information is not commonly seen in a tourist text.It’s worth discussing to figure out what strategies can be used to deal with this kind of introduction.This paper provides some translation strategies such as omission,annotation and cultural substitution.In details,the paper will analyze three kinds of text functions in this tour commentary and explore some translation strategies to deal with the cultural words in six categories.
