With the continuous growth of the economy and the continuous improvement of medical treatment, the average age of the country’s people continues to increase and the ageing of the population continues to deepen.According to the latest statistics,as of the end of 2017,China’s population aged 60 years or older accounts for 17.3%of the total population.(About 250 million). The population aged 65 or above accounts for 11.4%of the total population(about 160 million),which indicates that the aging trend in China is severe. The Chinese government has introduced various policies to pay attention to the vital interests of the elderly. In recent years, the state has increasingly paid attention to the spiritual cultural life and mental health of the elderly. In addition, according to the "Tourth sample survey of the living conditions of the elderly in urban and rural areas in China",the rate of poor self-assessed sleep quality among rural seniors(24.5%)was significantly higher than that of nationals with poor self-rated sleep quality. The ratio(21.7%).Therefore,this survey uses the key rural elderly population as participants and describes the current status of their sleep quality and mental health.Based on previous studies, this study will introduce social support factors that have a certain impact on mental health. The three factors in the overall status of rural elderly individuals suggest ways to improve sleep quality and mental health of elderly individuals in rural areas,so as to improve the lives and quality of life of the elderly. The subjects selected for this study were 351 rural seniors in 5 counties in Shaanxi Province, with an average age of 72.44(SD = 7.832),of whom 207 were men and 144 were women. This study used the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI),Satisfaction with Life Scale(SWLS),12-item General Mental Health Questionnaire(GHQ-12),Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS),and Perceived Social Support(PSSS).Tests were conducted and some interviews were conducted in depth. The research and analysis of the survey data and research interview records resulted in the conclusion of this study:1.In the rural elderly population, males have better sleep quality and mental health than females;younger adults have better sleep quality and mental health than middle-aged and older adults;and spouses have better sleep quality and mental health than uncoupled seniors.2.There is a significant correlation between sleep quality and mental health status in the rural elderly:(1)There is a significant correlation between sleep quality and general mental health in the elderly,ie better sleep quality and better general mental health status;(2)Sleep quality There was a significant correlation with life satisfaction, that is,the better the sleep quality, the higher the life satisfaction;(3)There was a significant correlation between sleep quality and anxiety,ie,the better the sleep quality, the lower the anxiety level.3.The influence of sleep quality on the mental health of rural seniors will be regulated by their subjective perceived social support. That is,social support can regulate the quality of sleep in the elderly and thus affect the mental health of the elderly.
