A Report On E-C Translation Of The Annexation Of Montenegro And The Creation Of The Common South Slavic State

Translation of historical document,as a branch of translation studies and major communication channel for international academic exchange,is playing an important role with important practical significance.At the same time,as the major communication channel for international historical exchange,the translation of historical document is becoming a crucial support for exchange and cooperation between our country and other foreign countries in the world.Adaptation theory is performed quite actively in the academic field and widely applied to the field of literature translation and advertisement translation.Nevertheless,it is seldom employed in the translation of historical document.Therefore,this report focuses on the role of adaptation theory in the translation of historical documents with the case analysis method,taking Chinese translation of the first chapter of the historical document The Annexation of Montenegro and the Creation of the Common South Slavic State as the research object.Through the analysis from the three notions(variability,negotiability and adaptability)and four aspects(contextual correlates of adaptation,structural objects of adaptability,dynamics of adaptability and salience of the adaptation process),the thesis aims at discussing the usage and function of adaptation theory in historical document translation as well as drawing the attention of most researchers and translators to this field.Based on the situation that the studies on historical document translation are largely concerned about some experiences of translators rather than theories,the report studies the theoretical adaptability from several aspects:contextual correlates of adaptation,structural objects of adaptability,dynamics of adaptability and salience of the adaptation process,and also applies adaptation theory to translation cases analysis,through which it is found that the common difficulties at the lexical and grammatical level during translation lie in the rendering of culture-loaded words,political vocabularies and long difficult sentences.Moreover,it is argued that in the translation process of historical document,translator's continuous choice-making on the basis of adaptation to the communicative language environment of the author and the target language readers can produce higher quality translation.Therefore,the assigned translation tasks are achieved:the target text is more objective,formal,complete and briefer;and it can also make the target text more convincing.The report summarizes the historical document translation strategies in the perspective of adaptation,and illustrates the practical significance of the adaptation theory in such texts.All in all,study on translation in the perspective of Adaptation Theory can help translators and language learners to understand the process of translation comprehensively on the one hand,and the translation text provides references for the study of Montenegrin history and strength historical basis to the study of world academic culture on the other.
