Zhongmiao is located in the north bank of Chaohu Lake,Chaohu City,Anhui Province.In the Ming and Qing Dynasties,the temple was managed by Taoist priests,and was worshiped the gods such as Pi-hsia Yuan-chun.The master degree thesis selects the Ming and Qing Dynasties as the research center,using the methods of history and literature,from the perspective of religious social history and ideological history.On the basis of the related local chronicles of the Zhongmiao,this thesis analyzes the natural environment and the humanistic environment of the temple,studies the changes of the temple's architecture and the divinity belief of the temple,and probes into the interaction between the temple and the local society.The first chapter investigates the related local chronicles of the Zhongmiao.There are still two of the local chronicles.In 1889,Wu Nengcheng compiled the local chronicles of Chaohu Zhongmiao,it is an existing early local chronicles.In 1923,Li Xinkong compiled the local chronicles of Anhui Chaohu Zhongmiao,it is an existing complete local chronicles.Based on the local chronicles of Chaohu Zhongmiao,Li Enshou compiled the local chronicles of Chaohu.It is first local chronicles of the Chaohu Lake,this book preserving precious historical materials.The case reflects the influence of Zhongmiao.The second chapter analyzes the natural environment and cultural environment of the Zhongmiao.The temple has the beauty of a landscape of lakes and mountains and the name of "flying phoenix",which is in accordance with the requirements of Taoist palace site selection.It is in the main road of traffic,the business is gathered,the military position is important,the surrounding religious atmosphere is strong.Its culture to a blend of religious,including Taoism and Buddhism.The third chapter describes the vicissitude history of the Zhongmiao.In the Song Dynasty,there were some buildings in the land of Zhongmiao.In the Yuan Dynasty,the temple was formally built,called the "Zhongmiao".In the Ming Dynasty,the imperial edict was obtained,and the temple building formed a certain scale.In the Qing Dynasty,under the efforts of Taoists,they were helped by officials,scholars,merchants and residents.It was built repeatedly after it was destroyed.In the early period of the Republic of China,it was built by Taoist priests and then administered by Buddhists.The fourth chapter elaborates the polytheistic belief system of Zhongmiao.Before the Ming Dynasty,the temple was mainly worshiped by Jiao-Mu,who is the god of Chaohu Lake.Since the middle and later of Ming Dynasty,the head priest of this temple worship god is Pi-hsia Yuan-chun,at the same time to Jiao-Mu.In Zhongmiao,Pi-hsia Yuan-chun has many functions,affected by the belief of Jiao-Mu,she also has the attribute of lake god.In the Qing Dynasty,the temple also had the belief of Guan Yu and Lu Dongbin.In the local chronicles,two planchette writings by Lu Dongbin reflectes the religious belief and the spirit of entering the world of Taoist priest.The fifth chapter discusses the influence and function of Zhongmiao in local society.During the Ming and Qing Dynasties,the incense of Zhongmiao was strong,and it had greater impact in Luchow Fu.It was controlled and used by the gentry,which influenced the civilizing of local society.In Zhongmiao,the deity through prayer rain and escort services affect the economic livelihood of local society.The name of "Zhongmiao"established the military status of Zhongmiao.And in the late Qing Dynasty,the construction of Huaijun Zhaozhong temple,reflected the interaction between Zhongmiao and Li Hongzhang's family and the Huai-Bloc.
