A Report On English Translation Of Report On The Work Of The Government From The Perspective Of Text Typology Theory

The adoption of the significant policy of the reform and opening-up contributes to continuous development of China's economy.And China has enjoyed unprecedented growth in the global arena.As the number of foreigners living and working in China has been on the rise,the demands for relevant information about the Chinese government are also on the rise.One way to satisfy these demands is to read the annual Report on the Work of the Government,for it reviews the government's work in the previous year or five years and makes overall arrangements for the work in the coming year or in the next five years.Drawing the attention of governments and people of all countries in the world,it has become one of the most important ways for the international community to understand China's national conditions and its development,as well as the Chinese government's policies.In this sense,the translation of the report proves to be very important.Whether the English translation is good or not is relevant to the international reputation and international status of China.In this thesis,the author elaborates on the translation process of the 2017 Hubei Provincial People's Government Work Report from three parts of before-translation,while-translation and after-translation,while analyzing the text features and translation strategies of the government work report from the perspective of text typology theory.The main content of this thesis is divided into five parts.The first part demonstrates the translation project,introducing the background and the significance of the government work report.The second part is the translation process.In the before-translation part,a translation schedule is established,and the relevant translation tools and resources are sorted out.In the while-translation part,the author establishes a glossary,and sums up the translation problems encountered by the author and the way to solve these translation problems.In the after-translation part,the author first self-proofs the translation,and then consults professional translators and the instructor for further improvement of the translation quality.The third part is the introduction of Reiss's text typology theory and its application from the text type and text features of the government work report.The fourth part is the analysis of the translation of the 2017 Hubei Provincial People's Government "Work Report from the aspects from lexical,syntactic and textual levels,and then puts forward the relevant translation strategies as well as the translation method from two aspects of single method and mixed methods.The fifth part is the summary of the improvements and limitations during the translation practice.
