The Hermit-The Research On The Calligraphy Of Ma Yifu

Ma Yifu was a great scholar who was proficient in Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism.He was famous for his knowledge and poems.He also was known for his talent and culture.As far as the achievenment was concerned,his successes were much greater than others.He was interested in Chinese calligraphy since his childhood.His culture made him a very scholarly calligrapher and he is different from other scholaries.He rapidly acquired an enormous reputation as a scholar who was rigorous in his methods and thorough in his research.There was no specialized book in his calligraphy theories.But he had the systems of thought.He practiced calligraphy vey hard.He was good at Words of Jin,small seal character,offical script,Zhangzao,regular script,running script and so on.In oder to study Ma Yifu’s calligraphy theories,we should combine calligraphy practicing and the interpretation and appreciation of calligraphy rubbings.It is very important and valuable to develop the art of calligraphy in the future.This paper is divided into four parts: the first part briefly introduces Ma Yi-fu ’s life and his friends with him.He is intelligent and has a good memory.He studied ancient literature in his early years and later studied in the West.After returning to China to re-study Chinese philosophy,understand the differences between Chinese and Western philosophy after some study,finally determine the research direction and mainly study in Confucianism.His research method is to learn extensively and learn from the best.His goal is to become a moral person.Modern scholars rate Ma Yifu very high.Xie Wuliang,Li Shutong and other persons also praised him and they are good friends.The second part arranges Ma Yifu’s calligraphy thought,his calligraphy theory is mainly in his imitated to the ancient calligraphy inscriptions,the content of the inscriptions is very rich which involves his feelings and ideas of imitating calligraphy.Ma Yifu’s calligraphy thought has a clear concept of calligraphy,emphasizing that every stroke written in the process of calligraphy practice should have a history.His aesthetic thought focuses on expressing a neutral beauty.Ma Yifu’s thought of calligraphy comes from his academic thought.His method of studying calligraphy is the same as that of his study of philosophy.The third part analyzes the calligraphy art of Ma Yifu,arranges the process of Ma Yifu to learn each calligraphy style,the seal script to study the Spring and Autumn period,the official script to study the Han Dynasty,the regular script,the running script,the cursive script to study the Wei and Jin dynasties.Ma Yifu’s calligraphy style is elegant,fresh and natural.The fourth part discusses the enlightenment of Ma Yifu to the development of contemporary calligraphy.Ma Yifu’s calligraphy theory and practice have important enlightenment to the contemporary calligraphy world,leading contemporary calligraphy learners to return to tradition,cultivating solid basic skills and inheriting innovation.At the same time,he emphasized the important role of schooling in calligraphy creation.Ma Yifu was a master of the study of Confucianism,and his theory level was very high.His calligraphy was a natural writing of his open-minded and deep cultivation and a real calligraphy creation with fresh spirit and mellow book atmosphere.
