A Report On The Proofreading Of The Translation Of Game Age Of Wushu

Since the rise of game industry,such as RPG(Role-playing game),SLG(Simulation game),MOBA(Multiplayer online battle game)and STG(Shooting game),etc.,games featured with various elements have occupied a place in people's lives.Along with the globalization as well as the international trading,an increasing number of games rush into overseas market for further benefits.The basic premise of becoming popular with the public is to present them the games with good translation,which is also named as localization.And the whole game industry has seen a growing demand for game localization.Game localization plays an important role in overseas distribution of games as the translation quality determines whether the relevant games can be exported successfully or not.The game Age of Wushu which is discussed in this report,a Chinese game with traditional elements,makes it clear that the game industry in China is now capturing more opportunities in overseas market.This report introduces the background information,process of proofreading from the very beginning and makes a brief review of overall status of the game translation with the purpose to achieve business localization.And through proofreading,the translation issues relating to terms,contents of the game,poems in Chinese ancient style and words and sentences deriving from Buddhism are explored and exemplified.Meanwhile,the report analyzes on the difference between the way the English native translator and the Chinese native proofreader in dealing with translation.The report also probes into the translation skills and methods adopted by different translators.A summary of what has been gained in localization of this game is made at the end of this report,providing a new perspective for other translators dedicated to game translation.
