The Formation And Influence Of Xiangshan Psychology

Lu Jiuyuan proposed a distinctive school of philosophy:heart-mind theory.Lu Jiuyuan's philosophy and Wang Yangming's philosophy are together c alled: Lu & Wang School of Mind,which may contend with Zhu Xi's neo-confucianism.In th is paper,the “conscience” is proposed to be as the center to carry out an exploration of the for mation and influence of the Xiangshan's Philosophy of Mind,of which the structures are aime d to be cleared based on the formation of the conscience concept and its improvement process and the influence on the following learners are expounded further.Therefore,a more compre hensive understanding of Xiangshan's Philosophy of Mind is to be obtained and its essence m ay be realized as well.The formation of Lu's proposal is dependent on his times background,family background an d theoretical background.There had been the statements of conscience in the scope of ancient philosophy before Lu's proposal.Mencius stressed the morality of mind,and Buddhism expla ins the mind in the light of noumenon.These theories,to some degree,has an influence on the building of Lu's proposal.The appellation of “conscience” is somewhat complicated subject t o Lu's psychology,without a clear distinction between “conscience” and “heart”.Therefore,it is necessary for a detailed study on the idea of “the heart”.This paper begins with the logical sequence of thought formation,giving a clear and rich connotation to the core,the “heart”,of Lu's thought system.At last,the influence of Lu's mind on the following learners is studied w ith the “heart” as the center of this paper.
