| People are accustomed to create and spread images to express themselves while everyone can manufacture images.The cultural tradition of using the image to depict the society’ and lick into shape common values by Magazines,photographers,reporters,and artists is becoming the daily practice of the general public.This study focuses on contemporary Chinese wedding photographs from the perspective of image communication,summarize the content and style of image presentation,and analyzes how new couple think and visualize the intimacy,marriage,and family in the process of creating and disseminating wedding photos.Wedding photographs are a new wedding ceremony created by the Chinese world.They gradually became a specialized industry in the 1980 s or so and were introduced to the Mainland after the 1990 s.Now wedding photos are also popular in Korea,Malaysia and other places.The wedding photographs digress from the auxiliary function of recording in the marriage ceremony had developed into a separate ceremony and shaped a unique image style.In the classification of industry and aesthetics,wedding photography has become a separate category of photography works.As a category that focuses on image communication,image communication studies are cross-disciplinary and developmented in such a long time.It begins with the expansion and in-depth study of visual communication research resulting by many domestic and foreign communication scholars,also have emerged many theories of image production and communication.Many theories in communication have become important tools for exploring the meaning and expression of images,especially field theory.Gillian Rose,a British scholar,introduced the concept of field in the analysis of image information and meaning,and proposed "the field of image production,the field of the image itself,the field of image transmission".In China,Professor Han Congyao of Nanjing University published the monograph of "Image Communication".He proposed the three fields for image research,“the production field of the image,the field of the image composition,and the field of transmission of the image”,closely linked to the technology,Synthesis and society seeking to reveal the social reality and changes behind the image.Combining Gillian Rose and Han Congyao’s delineation of image meaning generation process,the research are comprised of there parts,the production field of weddingphotographs,the composition field of wedding photographs,and the transmission field of wedding photographs.Based on theories of symbols,rituals,and rhetoric,the study attempts to explore the significance of wedding photographs on communication studies,interpersonal relationships,and the concept of marriage and love.In the development history of image dissemination and image communication,image works once occupied an important position through mass medium.However,the importance of private image works has also attracted attention in both practical and academic research while the production and dissemination of images become more convenient.Wedding photographs,as works created by private individuals and mainly spread in the private sphere,bring the new understandings and imaginations for contemporary Chinese family While attempting to build perfect individual,ideal family,marriage,and intimacy.For wedding photographs have typical personal features and private functions,the study is different from previous research of image communication,which used to study image works of mass medium in the past.This study mainly adopts methods of literature research,text analysis,and interview,and based on 50 respondents and more than 800 wedding photos as research samples.From the perspective of image communication,we can survey the characters,scenes,shapes,posteriors,bindings,themes,scenes,colors,time,and communication of contemporary Chinese wedding photographs wich can reveal how it construct significance,what significance it constructed,and what concept of marriage effects it produced. |
