A Practice Report On Lexical Pragmatic Enrichment In Chinese Translation Of Smith And Roberson's Business Law

At the end of the 20 th century,a concept emerged in the pragmatics of vocabulary,named pragmatic enrichment.This study involves a wide range but rarely involves legal texts.Since the 21 st century,the political,economic and cultural development has been booming in China.The rule of law concept has been popular among the people.Legal translation is active in our field of vision.As the bridge and link to communicate with China and the world,business law translation also gradually occupies an important position.Drawing on relatively advanced legal concepts and systems in foreign countries,it is naturally necessary to focus on the translation of business law texts.The practice report is guided by pragmatic enrichment and selects the American commercial law textbook Smith and Roberson's Business Law as the translation practice object,discusses the effectiveness of vocabulary pragmatic enrichment translation strategies.Legal special vocabulary has strict monotony,rigor and accuracy,and it is a difficult point in translation of legal texts.Under the guidance of pragmatic enrichment theory research,this practical report studies and analyzes the key and difficult points in the process of legal English vocabulary translation.The paper discusses the translatability of legal vocabulary from the perspectives of cultural information,discourse connections,cognitive understanding,semantic expression and logical relations,proposes strategies and methods for solving translation problems.Aiming at the translation problems found in translation practice,such as difference in cultural information,unsharpness in discourse connection,difference in cognitive understanding,deviation in semantic expression and concealment of logical relation.Separately adopted the conceptual pragmatic enrichment of cultural information,instruction pragmatic enrichment of discourse connection,vocabulary meaning pragmatic enrichment of cognitive understanding,vocabulary theme pragmaticenrichment of semantic expression and textual cohesion pragmatic enrichment of logical relation as the solutions.The difference in cultural information is mainly manifested as the difference of terminology information and difference in minor world information;unsharpness in discourse connection is mainly manifested as unsharpness in personal connection and unsharpness in space-time connection;difference in cognitive understanding is mainly manifested as difference in meaning understanding and difference in collocative meaning;deviation in semantic expression is mainly manifested as deviation in subject expression and deviation in passive expression;concealment of logical relation is mainly manifested as concealment of cohesive relation and concealment of incidence relation.The conceptual pragmatic enrichment of cultural information is mainly focused on conceptual pragmatic enrichment of terminology and conceptual pragmatic enrichment of minor world;instruction pragmatic enrichment of discourse connection is mainly focused on pragmatic enrichment of person instructions and pragmatic enrichment of space-time instructions;vocabulary meaning pragmatic enrichment of cognitive understanding is mainly focused on pragmatic enrichment of vocabulary meaning and pragmatic enrichment of collocative meaning;vocabulary theme pragmatic enrichment of semantic expression is mainly focused on pragmatic enrichment of subject expression and pragmatic enrichment of passive expression;textual cohesion pragmatic enrichment of logical relation is mainly focused on pragmatic enrichment of textual cohesion and pragmatic enrichment of discourse association.The case analysis shows that the pragmatic enrichment has certain guiding significance and practical value for the translation of legal texts,and has obvious effect on the quality of translated texts.It is expected that the practical report will have some implications for the Chinese translation of English legal text vocabulary.
