| The study of pragmatic enrichment covers a wide range, but rarely involves legal texts, especially judicial texts such as criminal judgments. This report takes the Chinese to English translation practice project of the Criminal Judgment of(201*)Z Zhong Fa Xing Er Chu Zi No.2 as the research object, and focuses on the application of pragmatic enrichment phenomenon to solve various difficulties in the translation process.Pragmatic enrichment includes the pragmatic broadening and pragmatic narrowing of words and sentences in a specific context. This paper discusses the important role of pragmatic enrichment in the translation of criminal judgments by combining the characteristics of cautious wording and formal writing in legal texts. The source language of the text is rigorous and normative, there are a large number of legal professional terms, and the accuracy of the wording is very high.Due to the differences between Chinese and Western legal systems and the different ways of expression in Chinese and English, the main difficulties encountered by the author in translation are the choice of terms and the treatment of logical connectives. The author classifies the key points and difficulties in translation into four types:legal terminology, discourse connection, cognitive perception, semantic expression and logical connection. From the perspective of pragmatic enrichment, four solutions to these four types of difficulties are put forward, namely, conceptual pragmatic enrichment, indicative pragmatic enrichment, thematic pragmatic enrichment and cohesive pragmatic enrichment.Through a large number of examples, this paper discusses in detail the translation methods of judicial texts, especially criminal judgments. The author tries to make the translation not only conform to the strict and normative style of the legal text, but also be faithful to the original text to the greatest extent.Accurate terminology expression and semantic expression, explicit discourse connection and logical connection are the key to make the translation text not only conform to the rigorous and standard writing style of the legal text, but also be faithful to the source text to the greatest extent. |
